12 Swimming Pool Types -Ⅲ

07 Building Pool

pool furniture

Best for: A swimming pool that makes design while providing recreational functions.

As the name suggests: architectural pools must have structure, defined lines, and often echo the shape of the house, using the same materials to create a cohesive appearance. Architectural swimming pools are often geometric, complex and designed by architects. If the house is custom built, the pool is usually built at the same time, taking into account the size of the lot and the layout and relationship of the house to the pool.

These are swimming pools for more affluent homeowners who may hire professional architects to design their homes. The cost is usually included in the master plan for the home and landscaping, but a pool like this can easily add $100,000 or more to the cost of a home. Pool and water quality maintenance is the same as any in-ground pool.

08 Infinity Pool

Best for: Taking advantage of surrounding landscape vistas.

Infinity pools are also known as infinite-edge pools, vanishing-edge pools, negative-edge, zero-edge, or vanishing-edge pools. Infinity pools are always custom made and designed to accentuate the view. Done right, an infinity pool can give the illusion that a sheet of water is falling from the edge of the hotel, like a waterfall, although you can't see or hear it.

They are definitely on the more expensive end of the spectrum for residential pools. Like architectural pools, infinity pools are usually designed and built as part of the master plan when the home is being built.

09 Natural pool

Best for: Combining water recreation with the natural landscape.

Natural swimming pools (or swimming pools as they are called in Europe) are self-cleaning pools that combine a swimming area and a water garden. Most natural pools are lined with rubber or reinforced polyethylene. A separate in-pool "regeneration" zone is equipped with an aquatic landscape that acts as an organic cleaning system.

Like any in-ground residential pool, a natural pool can be designed in a free-form, rustic style with boulders and waterfalls, or in a modern or architectural style with more sleek elegance.

Natural pools typically cost about the same or slightly more than traditional pools, depending on the landscape. They often appeal to gardeners because of the wide variety of plants they can grow, but also to green advocates and others who don't want to swim in chlorinated water. These pools are easy to care for when the ecosystem is properly balanced, but it can be difficult to do. If the water chemistry is out of balance, or if the pool becomes overgrown with algae, it can be difficult to restore without a lot of work.
