12 Pool Types to Consider - Ⅱ

04 Small swimming pool

Best for: Serious wellness enthusiasts with limited space.

A lap pool is a swimming pool constructed and used for fitness and health purposes. The shallower and narrower pools I introduced earlier are not pools suitable for diving boards and water slides, they are suitable for everyday recreational activities. Typically, plunge pools are rectangular, which makes them ideal for long, narrow sites.

Nationally, the average cost to install an 8' x 40' x 4' deep in-ground swimming pool is approximately $44,000. This type of pool comes with all the maintenance required of any in-ground pool.

05 Indoor swimming pool

Best for: Wealthy families with plenty of space and a healthy budget.

An indoor swimming pool is pretty simple: it's indoors, under a roof, and usually insulated by at least one wall of the house. Indoor swimming pools are generally simple geometric shapes that are suitable for swimming or training year-round, especially in colder climates. In most cases, indoor pools feature a standard inground pool ($55,000 on average), plus a faux glass enclosure that can cost an additional $10,000 to $30,000. However, an above ground pool can also be fenced in the same way.

The cost of maintaining a heated indoor pool can sometimes be lower than that of an outdoor pool. Since a billiard room is protected from the elements, it retains heat better than an outdoor swimming pool. The enclosure keeps leaves and other debris out of the pool, reducing cleaning efforts.

06 Olympic Size Swimming Pool

Best for: Serious athletes and fitness buffs with plenty of room and a big budget.

Olympic swimming is one of the most followed sports in the world, with the largest number of events and participants from different countries. It's no surprise that aspiring Olympians and swimmers are drawn to the big event and want an Olympic-sized pool of their own.

But adding an Olympic-sized swimming pool is not for the faint of heart. An official Olympic swimming pool is 25 meters wide by 50 meters long, holds 500,000 gallons of water, and costs at least $300,000 to build. Anyone with this type of pool will likely need to hire a pool attendant to do basic maintenance.
